While we just bought ourselves a nice used Saab late last week (pictures to come), this still takes the cake for most awesome family car.

Outrage over French Vogue’s blackface photos
Again, we see race discussed in a vacuum. This isn’t offensive simply because a white model is wearing brown makeup to appear black, it’s offensive because Vogue has already endured criticism for their lack of black models in their photo shoots (hence the apologetic Vogue Italia black issue).  Secondly, and I’m directly addressing France here, come the fuck on! You have a history of representing non-white Europeans and Africans as exotic objects and continue to exploit and deny basic human rights to the immigrants and their descendants, evidence of your legacy of violent colonialism in Africa. Not to mention the fashion industries current, neo-Colonial practices of exploiting cheap labor for couture. I don’t think the answer is to rend our clothes and scream “That’s offensive!! OH my eyes!!”, rather we should ask why these images are offensive, what’s the context?
